Central Christian is honored to have Rev. James Schimmel as its Guest Preacher on Sunday, August 23rd. Reverend Schimmel will present the message “Jesus Kisses Frogs” at the 9 am Contemporary Service and 10:30 am Traditional Service.
Text : John 10:14-16. The sermon is the first sermon in a Trilogy by the same name which concludes with the third sermon entitled “All God’s Children.”
“It is important to me to share this message as part of my conviction that all people, (and I do mean all) are God’s children regardless of all the barriers that we people seem inclined to put up. This inclusiveness would cover (but not be limited to) race, skin color, ethnic origin, religion, physical challenges, economic status, gender, sexual orientation” Rev. Schimmel said. Rev. Schimmel feels very called into a ministry of opening a dialogue between the “straight” community and the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community; anti racist inclusiveness in our churches as well as for the full inclusion of women in all the life and ministries of the church. His goal is to see churches work toward eliminating that divisiveness and work toward true openness, affirmation and diversity in our churches as a positive witness of wholeness to a badly broken world.
Rev. Schimmel received his BA from Bethany College, Masters of Divinity from Yale Divinity School, and was ordained at Boardman Christian Church in Youngstown, Ohio. He has served on various ecumenical organizations in addition to the Regional Board and various commissions and committees of the Disciples Christian Church in Ohio. His career includes serving as counselor and teacher at youth conferences, retreat leader, Bible lecturer, vesper speaker, and presentor for the Ohio Disciples Christian Adult Conferences. Currently, Rev. Schimmel serves as Regional Elder for District VII and is a member of Franklin Circle Christian Church in Cleveland, Ohio.
