Central Christian Church will hold a Candlelight Service Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 7:00 pm to honor the National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.
Three years ago, Lori Schneider and Melissa Moody met to discuss how our church could support individuals and families who had experienced the loss of a child. This led to our first candlelight service being held on October 15th which is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. Melissa shared, “Initially, the service was attended by women who had experienced miscarriage(s) or pre-term births.. Now it is attended by moms, dads, grandparents, siblings, and friends, needing a way to acknowledge their pain from losing a child or to learn how to be helpful to others. Our service provides a place to grieve, remember, heal, and support those who have suffered, the loss of a child.” The service includes reading the names of the child aloud at the service. If you would like to include a name, please email the church office at email@example.com with one of the following options: the full name i.e. Lucy Doe, partial name Baby Doe, anonymously as Baby L, or other short nicknames. It is not necessary to provide a name in order to attend this service. We understand some may want to remember privately or did not have the opportunity or desire to name the precious child lost. This memorial service will welcome names from anyone who has lost older or adult children, but our focus will be on pregnancy and infant loss. We hope that we can help you by giving you and other parents, grandparents, siblings, relatives, and friends a special day of remembrance. We invite you to bring a memento to sit on the piano at the front of the sanctuary. No matter where you are in your grieving, this service respects the privacy or openness you need. All are welcome.
